Keel Boats

One of the things I continually lament over is the Keel Boat. Here is a great August 1958 closeup of the deck of one, showing why I like it so much: you have a cool enclosed place to sit and Mike Fink’s “popgun” (given to him as a gift by Davy Crockett in “River Pirates”) to shoot all those bad injuns on the shore with. Hang on a minute; forget the injuns, there’s a burning cabin on the right! Yup, here’s yet another burning cabin shot, with close-up included at no extra charge. This one’s from November, 1959. Thanks to Wonderboss and the others for providing the correct information on Mike Fink’s popgun.

Well at least one of the Keelboats was saved and is sitting in a collectors pond in their backyard.

I believe that is actually a cannon with which to shoot those bad injuns. Love your photos.

I agree with anonymous, I think that may be a cannon. That's a cool detail I've never seen before, in either case. I'll have to look at my Keelboat pix and see if I notice the cannon (or telescope)...seems like something that would have been removed in the name of political correctness at any rate.

Yeah, Dave, that's Mike Fink's "popgun", given to him as a gift by Davy in "River Pirates."

(This is my first comment, but I've been lurking for weeks -- great blog!).
