Adventure Thru Inner Space, 1960’s

Probably one of the most-missed “extinct” attractions is this one, Adventures Thru Inner Space. I still remember how cool it was as a kid to think you were being “shrunken” and then seeing the plastic tube that showed how small some of the other riders had become.

See more vintage and contemporary Disneyland photos at my main website.

I think "Inner Space" just edges out Nature's Wonderland as my most-missed attraction. It was so moody, and rather than being filled with animatronic characters, it had strange lights and shapes...you really used your imagination. The big payoff....seeing the giant eye looking at you through the microscope! I've heard that an ex-Disney employee has the eyeball in storage, I think in Tajunga.

I know one of the large scrims used in the ride is in an ex-Disney employees hands. And of course there are the Atomibles, one of which was auctioned off recently.

I have an Atomobile in my collection - even worked with the guy who did the vaccuform on them briefly... I had a chance at the time to buy 3 of them, but I thought the price of $750 each was outrageous at the time!

I'm friends with the fellow who has the scrims (and a large plastic molecule as well) - the scrims are neat, but are huge, shedding glitter & generally falling apart...
